Justice for Meyiwa | Selfies could identify shooter

PRETORIA - The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial will have to make a formal application to lead new evidence in the case.

That was the order by Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng after prosecutors wanted to re-examine lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda on photos downloaded from Accused 2 and 3's phones.

The photos include selfies taken by Accused 3, Mthobisi Mncube, on the day Meyiwa was murdered.

They allegedly show Mncube with dreadlocks and a gold tooth, features that match witness descriptions of the gunman who killed Meyiwa inside Kelly Khumalo’s Vosloorus house.

The state alleges Mncube was the shooter and the crime was a planned hit.

It says the photos were included in a photo album previously submitted into evidence...

The defence says the officers who downloaded the images should be recalled to the stand.
