Kariega residents protest on anniversary of killer floods

KARIEGA - Residents of the Eastern Cape town of Kariega are marking the first anniversary of floods that left 11 people dead and hundreds displaced. 

But their tribute is overshadowed by frustration and anger at the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality. 

They accuse officials of failing to deliver on promises made after the floods.

The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality denies that there has been any progress.

Municipality spokesperson Sithembiso Soyaya emphasised that the municipality remains fully committed to restoring safe infrastructure and providing support to residents.
