PIETERMARITZBURG - A homeless man was shot dead during a stand-off with municipal security in Pietermaritzburg on Monday.
The knife-wielding man was killed after he allegedly tried to stab a Msunduzi Municipality security guard who was attempting to prevent him from stealing copper cables.
The incident occurred on Chief Mhlabunzima Road.
An eyewitness told eNCA that the man charged at the security guard with a knife, prompting the guard to open fire, fatally wounding him.
Msunduzi Municipality, spokesperson, Ntobeko Mkhize confirmed the incident; however, she said the municipality would not comment as the matter was now under police investigation.
