DURBAN - The death toll in the KwaMakhutha mass shooting in KwaZulu-Natal has risen to 12 following the death of one of three victims who were hospitalised.
The shooting happened on Tuesday night at around 11pm, when unknown gunmen stormed a home in Durban's KwaMakhutha township and opened fire on a group of people inside.
Ten people were killed at the scene, while another victim died while being transported to hospital.
Among those killed was a pregnant woman.
The gunmen also set fire to a car belonging to one of the victims before fleeing the scene.
According to a statement by KZN police earlier this week, preliminary investigations revealed that some of the victims were on Crime Intelligence’s radar in connection with suspected illegal activities, details of which police said they could not disclose.
Although the motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed, police said a feud between rival groupings cannot be ruled out.
