DURBAN β The ANC in eThekwini says it will direct the municipality to conduct daily raids and close down all spaza shops that are owned by undocumented foreign nationals.
The party said undocumented foreign nationals who are found in the containers and spaza shops should be arrested and deported and should not be documented.
βIt is a fact that there are opportunities that ordinarily should be set aside for locals are now being exploited by illegal foreign immigrants. Therefore, the ANC calls upon the ANC led government to put this to an end and protect the local economy for the residents of eThekwini,β it said in a statement.
This comes after a series of anti-migrant protests in recent weeks across the country including in eThekwini.
The party in the province said it has also directed the municipality to create a spaza shop fund to revive spaza shops owned by locals.
It said it would also be meeting with leaders of March and March.
