DURBAN - A popular KwaZulu-Natal TikToker is expected to appear in court on Monday following his arrest on charges of crimen injuria and incitement of violence.
The 38-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly posting a video on his TikTok account in which he insulted KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and called for violence.
KwaZulu-Natal police said the provincial task team opened a case for investigation after identifying possible criminal elements of crimen injuria and incitement of violence in the video.
Police subsequently traced the suspect to Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, where the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party was holding its final election rally.
In the video, the TikToker accuses Mkhwanazi of remaining silent while police officers in the province allegedly violate the rights of people seeking to protest.
