JOHANNESBURG - International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola has described the war in Sudan,
as one of the biggest moral failures of our lifetime.
He says the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan requires immediate intervention.
Lamola says South Africa will push African leaders at the African Union to take charge and actively resolve the continent's conflicts.
He welcomed the African Union's decision to convene a summit on strengthening conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms later this month.
He says the meeting presents an opportunity to put the principle of "African solutions for African problems" into action.
"The conflict has become more than just a humanitarian catastrophe. It is one of the biggest moral failures in our lifetime. South Africa will use this platform as a critical opportunity to mobilise the continent towards a structured intervention," Lamola said.
