At least 87 killed on WC roads since start of festive season

PAARL - At least 87 people have died on Western Cape roads since the start of the festive season.

With Christmas Day approaching, authorities expect traffic volumes to surge even further.

Pedestrian behaviour and drunk and reckless driving remain the top concerns.

Officers say they’ve seen a surge in drunk driving arrests, reckless or negligent driving, and speeding.

Officers have vowed to maintain round-the-clock, high-visibility patrols on highways and secondary routes in and around the province’s major towns.
