Lebombo border post | Security on Mozambican border beefed up

JOHANNESBURG - NatJoints says more security has been added to the Lebombo border in case of unrest in Mozambique.

This as Mozambique opposition leader Venancio Mondlane is expected to announce a new wave of protests.

Post-election violence has forced the closure of the port of entry numerous times.

Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili said the safety of South Africans is guaranteed.

"Government has gone as far as engaging our counterparts in Mozambique to find lasting solutions to the problems at hand," she said.

Border Management Authority Commissioner Michael Masiapato said from Friday night officials cleared all vehicles to go to Maputo.

"Until this point everything is going according to plan," he said.

"As we also planned, we are on the same level of alertness of the BMA and other stakeholders."
