JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is set to brief the public on Friday on the province’s response to gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
The briefing follows an urgent meeting between Lesufi, mayors, municipal managers and law enforcement agencies to assess how the province is responding to the ongoing scourge of GBVF.
The meeting comes amid heightened concern following the recent killings of women in Ekurhuleni.

A specialised multidisciplinary team has been deployed to investigate the killings and assist in establishing the circumstances surrounding the cases.
Lesufi’s briefing also comes just days after President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the national response to gender-based violence and femicide.
The Gauteng Premier is expected to outline the measures being taken by provincial authorities, municipalities and law enforcement agencies as efforts to strengthen the response continue.
