Level 9 storm warning for Gauteng

CENTURION, GP - Communities across Gauteng are being urged to prepare for extremely dangerous weather conditions. 

A Level 9 storm warning has been issued for large parts of the province and country.

The Community Policing Forum in Douglasdale has raised the alarm, warning residents to brace for severe storm activity expected today.

It's advising households to secure property, stay indoors where possible, and prepare for potential flooding and infrastructure disruptions.

Meanwhile, in Tshwane, the City’s Emergency Services has also issued its own Level 9 disruptive rain alert, following an impact-based warning from the South African Weather Service.

Rainfall of 100 to 150 millimetres is forecast for parts of the metro.

Residents living in low-lying areas, along riverbanks and wetlands are being strongly urged to move immediately to higher ground.

Authorities say rapid water accumulation may cause sudden, life-threatening flooding.

Levels 1-4 (Yellow): Suggests only minor flooding or impacts are expected, and the probability is low. Levels 5-8 (Orange): Indicates the storm is likely to cause considerable damage or disruption. Levels 9-10 (Red): Signals very severe weather with a high chance of major losses or even casualties.
