JOHANNESBURG -Emergency services are responding to an incident after a light aircraft crash.
The crash happened on Tuesday at the intersection of the New Road and Old Pretoria Main Road in Glen Austin.
The same incident resulted in a secondary car crash, further adding to the chaos in Midrand.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Xolani Fihla secondary motor vehicle accident occurred at the same location.
This, he said, resulted in severe traffic disruptions and heavy delays on the roadway.
"JMPD officers are currently en route to assist with traffic control, scene management, and diversions," he said.
According to Fihla, at this stage, authorities have not confirmed the number of injuries or casualties resulting from either incident.
"Details will be provided as further verified information becomes available," he said.
In the meantime, motorists have been urged to drive with caution.
The following alternative routes can be used:
- N1 Highway: Use the N1 via Allandale Road or Olifantsfontein Road (M38) interchanges to bypass the New Road / R101 intersection.
- Arterial Diversions: Route via Olifantsfontein Road (northbound) or Allandale Road (southbound) to bypass the Glen Austin perimeter.
- Local Midrand Traffic: Use Lever Road or Dale Road to travel through the area without approaching the affected intersection.
