Mabuyane says ANC EC should bury factions, disunity

KUGOMPO CITY - ANC Eastern Cape Chairperson Oscar Mabuyane says the party needs to work hard to bury factions and disunity.

The party’s 10th provincial conference was postponed at the last minute due to legal challenges.

Unhappy members took the party to court alleging branch levels processes were manipulated.

There are visible divisions among the Eastern Cape ANC's top five officials. Mabuyane doesn't see eye to eye with his provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukaitobi.

Mabuyane said the party was dealing with problems of "self-aggrandisement" and "careerism".

"Unfortunately there are those who would want to control the ANC because it’s a governing party but they must control it via those who are elected . So, this is what we are trying to insulate the ANC from. We are working hard on unity. Even now we are on the unity programme, we have been working hard on the renewal," Mabuyane said.

He says the branches want him reelected.

"I have always been guided by the branches of the ANC even on the issue of the third term," Mabuyane added.

The ANC Eastern Cape leaders are set to meet with the party’s top brass in Luthuli House this week to discuss the fate and embarrassment of the postponed conference.
