PRETORIA - The Madlanga Commission wants North West businessman Suliman Carrim to undergo an independent medical assessment.
This after the Carrim, who was scheduled to testify before the Commission on Thursday, was again a no-show. He is allegedly sick again and has been admitted in hospital.
His testimony has now been postponed to 15 July.
If Carrim remains medically unfit following an independent assessment, the Commission will abide by the decision and will instead rely on evidence already before it.
However, should he refuse an independent medical assessment, the Commission may seek recommendations that he be prosecuted under Section 5 and 6 of the Commissions Act and Regulation 1224 for hindering the proceedings.
Matthew Chaskalson, evidence leader, said if Carrim is found to be unfit, the Commission will not seek his appearance on 15 July.
"If he has subjected himself to an independent examination by a specialist appointed by the Commission, and that independent specialist confirms his incapacity to testify, we won't ask for him to be called again.
"We wont have time to hear his evidence but we will ask the Commission to make its findings in relation to all matters relevant to his evidence," Chaskalson said.
