Madlanga interim report for Ramaphosa's eye's only

JOHANNESBURG - The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry's interim report will not be made public.

It is expected to be submitted to the President on Wednesday.

President's spokesperson Vincent Magwenya, says that only once the final report is complete will it be made public.

The commission has been holding hearings into claims of corruption and interference in the criminal justice system.

Ramaphosa established the inquiry following explosive allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

He placed Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on leave.

Witnesses have implicated former and current senior police officials and politicians in criminal activities.

They detailed how officials were allegedly in cahoots with underworld figures.

Political analyst Dirk Kotze agrees with the decision to keep the interim report confidential.

'The commission is still midway through its work and has not reached any conclusions,' he says.

He says the document is merely a progress report outlining how the commission has interpreted its terms of reference.

Kotze argued that making the report public at this point could create the false impression that the commission has already reached findings.
