Madlanga told of alleged political interference in blogger's arrest

PRETORIA - The Madlanga Commission has heard that Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale put pressure on now suspended deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya to arrest blogger Musa Khawula.

Khawula faced charges of crimen injuria, violating Section 19 of the Cyber Crimes Act, and hate speech.

The allegations were in relation to defamatory comments he shared on his widely followed social media platform between 10 and 12 October 2024.

The two complainants in the matter were Secretary General Fikile Mbalula and of course businessman Ze Nxumalo.

It appeared that the warrant of arrest was also sent to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala with the intention to arrest Khawula should he see him.

Witness F told the commission he was off duty when he was told to execute a warrant of arrest.

The commission questioned Witness F why he would have sent this warrant to alleged underworld figure

He responded saying,” I was sending him on the vases of when he sees him her must just hold him there and call the police and present the warrant to the police,”

But the commission pressed how Matlala had no authority to do so as he was not an officer as statement on the warrant of arrest.
