JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe as the interim Minister of Police until the end of the month.
Mantashe steps in to replace Senzo Mchunu, who's been placed on leave of absence.
At the beginning of August, Firoz Cachalia will step in as the acting Police Minister.
On Sunday, Ramaphosa set up a commission of inquiry into the corruption allegations against Mchunu and other top SAPS officials.
This investigation is tasked with probing organised crime’s infiltration of law enforcement, both past and present.
