Mariannhill extortion | Threats continue despite alleged kingpin’s arrest

DURBAN - One of Durban's most dangerous criminals has been caught, but a community held to ransom for years is not celebrating.

Linda Hlongwa – known as Putin or Mjinja – was arrested in Gauteng this week after he allegedly killed his girlfriend and her mother last month.

He's been on the run for five years.

But a worrying voice note has been distributed to business owners since Hlongwa’s arrest.

Several residents have written to police and prison authorities pleading for Hlongwa to be placed in a maximum security facility.

They believe if he's jailed anywhere else, he will still have access to a phone to control his operations outside.

Hllongwa is expected to face extortion, murder and attempted murder charges when he appears in court next week.
