PRETORIA - Charges against suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola are expected to be formally withdrawn in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Masemola was suspended after facing allegations of inadequate oversight linked to the controversial SAPS health services contract awarded to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The National Prosecuting Authority has instructed prosecutors to withdraw the Public Finance Management Act charges, following a review that found no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.

The development could pave the way for Masemola’s return to work, but any decision to lift his suspension would need to be confirmed separately.
A meeting between Masemola and President Cyril Ramaphosa is reportedly being considered as discussions over his future continue.
