JOHANNESBURG - National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has denied closing the political killings task team.
The national police commissioner was briefing the media on Wednesday.
The briefing comes days after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi dropped explosive allegations during a media briefing.
He alleged that there's political interference in police investigations.
Furthermore, Mkhwanazi alleged that a total of 125 case dockets that were under investigation were taken away from the task team as directed by a deputy national commissioner, crime detection Lieutenant-General Sibiya, who was acting on the instruction of the Minister of Police.
But Masemola dismissed this, saying at no point did he sign off the closure.
"I have never seen any letter which I signed off the closure," he says.
Masemola has also said that Mkhwanazi's protection has been beefed up.
