Mayoral chain or not, Moya vows to drink first glass of Bronkhorstspruit’s clean water

MIDRAND -  ActionSA Tshwane mayoral candidate, Nasiphi Moya, says her promise to ensure clean, drinkable water to Bronkhorstspruit residents remains unchanged even if she no longer wears the mayoral chains.

Moya says the metro is waiting for water results to confirm it meets safety standards before household distribution can begin.

'I made a promise to the people of Bronkhorstspruit that once it's complete, I'll be the first one to drink it. So, for me, I need to also give that assurance that the water is truly clean. So, when the water is clean, they will see me being the first one to drink it,' she said.

She says areas close to the reservoirs could get their water sooner.

'The high-lying areas sometimes take about 12 hours for the water to get there. It's a phased-out approach. But what I'm assured of, we'll have enough quantities that will reach all the households that are supposed to benefit from those'.

Moya was speaking to eNCA at the Results Operation Center (ROC) in Midrand as the capturing of the 2026 Local Government Election results continues.

The most recent results indicate that around 81% of the votes have been counted in the City of Tshwane.

The DA is leading with 32.43%, followed by ActionSA with 22.94%.

The ANC is third with 21.58%. Moya said she was surprised and humbled by the support she received from residents.

'For me, whenever people were doubtful whether the work was happening and whether the work we were doing was resonating with communities, I always knew i would be judged by the residents and I think the outcomes show that the work did resonate.'

Regarding coalitions, Moya says ActionSA's doors are open.

'In terms of the national leadership of ActionSA, they have put it out there that we will talk to all political parties. We have conditions that we have put to them which we said are non-negotiable'.
