CAPE TOWN - ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says the party will go through the impeachment process guided by the Constitution.
He was responding to Mmusi Maimane's comments that the whole process would be undermined if an ANC member is elected to chair the committee.
"We are not going into the impeachment process to defend the report," he said.
"We are going into the process guided by the ruling of the Constitutional Court," he added.
The impeachment committee is expected to hold its first meeting on Monday to elect a chairperson and chart a way forward.
In May, the Constitutional Court found Parliament’s 2022 rejection of the Independent Panel's Section 89 Report into Phala Phala unconstitutional.
The court also slammed Parliament for stifling meaningful scrutiny of impeachment motions.
Meanwhile, Ramaphosa is challenging the Phala Phala report in the Western Cape High Court.
He claims among others that its findings relied on hearsay evidence and ignored the law.
A committee chairperson must be elected within a set time frame once members are announced.

Committee members say that Parliament must honour its mandate and ensure accountability throughout the Phala Phala inquiry.
Parliament insists it respects the rule of law and will carry out this task to the letter.
Along with electing a chairperson, MPs will also set out their meetings schedule and clarify how the inquiry will handle evidence.
