JOHANNESBURG - The wife of Wiandre Pretorius has been named as the sixth accused in the Emmanuel Mbense murder case.
Pretorius is the police reservist who took his own life in Brakpan.
Jaun Maree Eksteen appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court with suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi and four other accused as they all applied for bail.
The state is opposing bail, classifying the case as a Schedule 6 murder.

This means the accused must show exceptional circumstances to secure release.
Mbense was allegedly tortured and killed at his Brakpan home in April 2022, and his body dumped in a dam near Duduza.
His murder came under the spotlight at the Madlanga Commission, where the late Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, testified about an alleged cover-up and implicated Mkhwanazi.
Van der Merwe was later shot dead outside his Brakpan home.
