Mchunu : I've known Brown Mogotsi since 2017

CAPE TOWN - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu admits knowing ANC-aligned businessman Brown Mogotsi since 2017, but maintains their relationship was strictly casual.

Under renewed pressure for his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team, Mchunu is defending himself against allegations of improper associations.

He addressed claims of meetings with both Mogotsi and alleged criminal Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, firmly denying ever meeting Matlala.

"I've never met Matlala alone. I've never met him in the company of Mogotsi and possibly in any other capacity. He's not somebody that I know. He's not somebody that I've spoken to directly or indirectly. He's not somebody that I've had anything to do with Matlala. So I don't know him," he said.

Mchunu further alleged that KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's claims that he denied knowing Mogotsi in Parliament were twisted.

"[Mkhwanazi] said that to fit his narrative if not he was making a genuine era on his path. He can explain what he was doing," Mchunu said.

Mchunu continues to deny any involvement with organised crime or criminal syndicates, insisting his actions and relationships have been above board.
