PRETORIA - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu told the Madlanga Commission that it may have been an error to appoint General Dumisani Khumalo as head of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) while he was already leading Crime Intelligence.
Mchunu questioned how Khumalo could fulfil both functions.

Mchunu is sticking to his guns and has defended the now-infamous December 2024 letter that disbanded the PKTT.
He told the Madlanga Commission that a 2019 feasibility study confirmed political killings were already within the scope of the 'murder and robbery unit.
Mchunu argued that creating another team to run parallel to this unit was unnecessary.
