Mkhwanazi to kick off Madlanga Commission as new date is set

PRETORIA - KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkwanazi will be the first witness to take the stand when the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry looking into criminality, political interference, and corruption in the SAPS begins next Wednesday, 17 September.

The proceedings will take place in Pretoria.

This was confirmed by commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels as he gave an update on the preparations for the inquiry.

According to Michaels, consultations with Mkhwanazi are underway, and he has been reserved.

Initially, the proceedings were meant to begin on 1 September, but procurement issues for IT systems and infrastructure caused the postponement of the hearings.

But Michaels now assures that all systems are in place for the commission to kick off.

“With the procurement, training, and testing completed, preparations are on track. Until we were sure that the systems were fully functional and that our public records could be securely stored, we could not proceed responsibly with those preparations,” he affirmed.
