More than 70 arrested in Gauteng illegal mining crackdown

RANDFONTEIN - More than 70 suspects have been arrested in the latest crackdown targeting illegal mining in Gauteng.

The operation involves the South African Police Service and the South African National Defence Force.

It was carried out at Bundu Inn in Mohlakeng, Gauteng. Police said they seized two vehicles, more than 20 generators, and over 100 bags of suspected gold-bearing material.

The operation is still underway, with authorities warning the number of arrests and recovered items is expected to rise.
