LIMPOPO - Mother and child have died in an accident involving Minister of Health Aaron Motoaledi’s vehicle.
The incident occurred on the N1 near Bela-Bela, Limpopo, on Saturday, 9 May 2026, with the driver confirmed to be a member of the Protection Security Services (PSS).
According to police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, the woman with her two kids- one strapped on her back- was allegedly crossing the road to attend another accident involving her husband, who was also involved in an accident.
“He was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by an off-duty police officer and died at the scene,” Mathe said.
Mathe said after the alleged accident involving the woman, Motsoaledi, alongside his close protector and the driver, immediately stopped at the scene and remained there until police and emergency medical services arrived.
“Statements were subsequently obtained from those present at the scene.”
Police have launched investigations into two separate cases of culpable homicide involving.
According to Mathe, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has taken over investigations as both drivers are SAPS members.
