Motorists warned of fake traffic fine SMS scam

JOHANNESBURG - Motorists are urged to be on the lookout for a new fraud trend.

Brazen criminals are sending fraudulent SMS and WhatsApp messages claiming motorists have outstanding traffic fines that require immediate payment.

Fines SA says these criminals don't just take money but also the personal information of motorists.

The company's CEO and founder, Barry Berman, advised motorists to check their outstanding fines before embarking on their trip.
