PIETERMARITZBURG - The no-confidence vote at the Provincial Legislature in Pietermaritzburg against KZN Premier Thami Ntuli failed on Monday.
The MK Party tabled the motion.
The proceedings took a turn when the speaker decided to allow an open vote.
MK Party MPLs clashed with police and punches were thrown in the legislature.
An ambulance took one MPL away.
The party accused Ntuli of financial mismanagement, poor governance, and failure to address unemployment and poverty in the province.
The Secretary-general of MK Party Bongani Mncwango said, "This is justice denied by the people ruling the GPU."
Mncwango called the decision to host an open ballot "problematic".
The IFP and the DA rejected the motion but the EFF threw its weight behind it.
The move marked the culmination of months of political tension that has gripped the province.
IFP Youth Brigade National Chairperson Comrade Sanele Zondo said the call for a secret ballot caused the chaos.
The premier said, "They were just creating chaos."
"It's a shame that the people of KwaZulu Natal, they think, as leaders here: we are taking decisions that will address their challenges and what we are doing here; we see MKP and EFF joining forces to create unnecessary chaos and a lot of unnecessary accusations."
"Because they want power at all costs, they have to drown the house [out]," Ntuli said.
