JOHANNESBURG - Mpumalanga’s grim festive season death toll so far stands at 116.
Despite a decline compared to previous years, Roads and Transport MEC Thulasizwe Thomo says the number remains unacceptably high.
He’s leading an intensified law enforcement campaign targeting public transport.
More than 2,300 vehicles have already been impounded.
"We have registered a tremendous decrease in terms of these fatalities because we have been working jointly and strategising jointly with the other sister departments and, of course, the National Department of Transport," he said.
"And we therefore say that these strategies need to be enhanced moving forward so that we can reduce this number."
