JOHANNESBURG - A mudslide has trapped five workers over 800m underground at the Ekapa diamond mine in Kimberley.
A search and rescue operation is underway to locate and extract the workers.
The National Union of Mineworkers is calling on the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Department to launch a full investigation into the cause of the disaster.
The condition of the trapped mineworkers is unknown.
The union wants a transparent process to determine whether safety protocols were followed and how similar incidents can be prevented.
