It's aimed at allowing closer scrutiny of its budget and annual accountability sessions with the President, Deputy President and Director General.

The development aligns with recommendations of the Zondo Commission aimed at strengthening parliamentary oversight.

DA spokesperson Karabo Khakhau said, "beyond that [the recommendations of the Zondo Commission] it is also important to make sure that the Director-General of Director-Generals of this country, sitting in the presidency gets to be scrutinised on what they are doing with the country's budget, nationally."

"It's also important that we have the President and the Deputy President also be subjected to more accountability outside of just the regular question sessions that exist within The House [of Representatives] and that ends there."
