JOHANNESBURG - A new witness is expected to take the stand as the trial-within-a-trial in the attempted murder case against Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala continues.
Matlala, his wife Tsakani, Musa Kekana, Tiego Mabusela and Nthabiseng Nzama face 25 counts linked to alleged botched assassination attempts.
The five appeared in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday as proceedings continued.
The case took a dramatic turn when disbarred lawyer Malesela Teffo was ordered to leave the courtroom after attempting to intervene.
Teffo, dressed in full legal robes, told the court that the constitutional rights of the five accused had been violated.
However, the accused themselves distanced themselves from Teffo, arguing that he had no legal standing in the matter and that his intervention was wasting both their time and that of the court.
With Teffo’s intervention brought to an abrupt end, attention has now returned to the trial-within-a-trial, where the evidence of a new witness is expected to come under scrutiny.
