Nigeria to evacuate first 500 citizens from SA

JOHANNESBURG - The evacuation of the first 500 Nigerian nationals from South Africa will take place on Wednesday.

The Nigerian Government says the repatriation will be fully funded. Adequate reception and reintegration plans have also been put in place for those returning, it said.

The first flight will depart from the OR Tambo international airport on Wednesday night. It is expected to arrive in the city of Ikeja on Thursday morning.

Nigeria is the latest country to repatriate its nationals, after Ghana and Mozambique, as anti-illegal migrant protests continue in South Africa.

Over 1,000 citizens have asked to return home.
