MDANTSANE – Eastern Cape police have urged members of the public to refrain from sharing untrue information concerning their investigation into the murder of two-time boxing world champion, Zolani Tete.
Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said no arrests have been made yet and that the investigation is still underway.
“The SAPS wishes to categorically state that no arrests have been made in connection with this murder at this stage. The investigation continues, and our teams are actively pursuing all available leads.

“We have noted with concern the rumours circulating on social media and other platforms suggesting that suspects have been apprehended. These reports are false and unfounded. We urge the public to refrain from sharing unverified information, as this undermines the investigative process and causes unnecessary distress to the bereaved family and the community.
“We appeal to the community of Mdantsane and the broader public to remain calm and allow the police to conduct their work without interference. Anyone with information that could assist in tracing the suspects is urged to come forward. Contact the Inyibiba SAPS,” she said.
Tete was ambushed at his gate by two balaclava-clad gunmen who opened fire on him and his female passenger. He drove into his yard but died at the scene; the passenger was wounded and hospitalised.
The motive for the attack remains unknown at this time, and no arrests have been made.
