JOHANNESBURG - Large parts of Johannesburg South have been plunged into darkness following an incident at the Fordsburg substation.
The outage has left thousands of customers without electricity and disrupted Rand Water’s pumping operations, raising concerns about water supply.
City Power said the incident affected the Orlando Switching Station, triggering widespread outages across several areas.
Residents in Lenasia, Hursthill and Reuven are among those without power, while substations serving Soweto, Eldorado Park, Industria, Nancefield and Eikenhof have also been affected.
City Power has warned that it cannot yet provide an estimated restoration time.
The extent of the damage remains unclear, with technical teams expected to assess the situation on site and determine the repairs required.
