JOHANNESBURG - As the Department of Education in Gauteng explores ways to address the funding shortfall, it's concerned about parents who are failing to meet their financial obligations at fee-paying schools.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane says it's worrying that some parents are spending money on luxury items, but failing to pay their child's school fees.
"If you assume that we'll wake up tomorrow and say we don't have money -- this is not a Gauteng problem, just to allay your concerns," Chiloane said.
"There's no mismanagement. In fact, we've been very thrifty and prudent with our finances as a province. Others have collapsed, literally."
