NPA confirms withdrawal of urgent interdict bid in Sibanyoni case

JOHANNESBURG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says an urgent court bid to halt the execution of arrest warrants in the matter involving taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and others has been withdrawn.

The application followed the State’s decision to re-enroll the criminal case after it was struck off the roll on 18 May 2026 in the Kwaggafontein Magistrates’ Court, after which J50 warrants of arrest were issued for the accused.

In response, Sibanyoni and co-accused approached court to interdict both the execution of the warrants and the re-enrolment of the matter, with proceedings set down in the Delmas Magistrates’ Court and linked to a separate High Court challenge in Mbombela.

The NPA says it received formal notice on 29 May that the urgent application had been withdrawn, ending the legal challenge.

According to the NPA spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, this resolves the dispute over the warrants and the re-enrolment.

The case will now proceed through the normal criminal justice process.
