NPA vs Omotoso | Court to hear first part of appeal

GQEBERHA - The Eastern Cape High Court in  Gqeberha will hear the first part of the State’s appeal in the high-profile case of televangelist Timothy Omotoso.

Earlier this year, Omotoso and his co-accused were acquitted on over 30 charges of rape, racketeering and human trafficking.

The 66-year-old then left the country for Nigeria.

The State and the defence will argue whether Judge Irma Schoeman should clarify aspects of her ruling.

This after the State requested to raise legal questions before the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The NPA maintains there are reasonable prospects of a successful appeal despite the complexities of the legal process.

Omotoso’s legal team is opposing the move.
