Nsfas records over 1 million applications for 2027 as deadline looms

JOHANNESBURG - The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) has received more than one million applications for the 2027 funding cycle.

The application period closes on 31 October 2026, with Nsfas confirming that there will be no extensions.

The scheme has urged prospective applicants to submit their applications before the deadline to avoid last-minute challenges and ensure they are received within the stipulated period.

“Applications can be submitted through the official Nsfas website or via the Nsfas mobile application. Applicants who are required to provide supporting documentation must ensure that the relevant documents are uploaded through the official Nsfas application platform,” Nsfas said in a statement.

It warned that missing documents, incomplete information or incorrect details could affect the verification and processing of applications.

As part of efforts to ensure eligible students have access to financial assistance, the Nsfas Board will participate in the final-push outreach programme in support of the 2027 application period.
