Officers in court for robbery, kidnapping and extortion

CAPE TOWN - The Hawks have broken a protection and robbery racket in Cape Town.

Two law enforcement officers attached to the Metal Theft Unit have appeared in court.

They face charges of commercial robbery, kidnapping, extortion and theft.

The Hawks say Justin McKay and Christopher Molefie were out on bail on similar charges.

The pair allegedly raided foreign-owned spaza shops, demanded protection money, and stole products.

The city says when the pair was first arrested, it initiated disciplinary action.

They return to court this Friday for the March extortion case, and again on Monday next week.
