One-month deadline set for Iran naval drill investigation

PRETORIA - The panel established to probe Iran's participation in a recent naval exercise has now been instituted.

Justice Bernard Ngoepe leads the panel, which includes Judge Kathleen Satchwell, Judge Monica Leeuw and Rear Admiral Patrick Duze.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s order to exclude Iran from the exercise fell on deaf ears.

Ngoepe and his colleagues will take a closer look at how the commander-in-chief's order was defied.

They need to finish the probe and deliver it directly to the Presidency within one month.

The work of the panel will be confidential due to national security concerns.
