Over 1,500 perpetrators sentenced in fight against GBV-F

JOHANNESBURG - The SAPS has released crime statistics for the first and second quarters of the 2025/26 financial year, covering April to September 2025.

Deputy National Commissioner of Policing, Lt Gen Tebello Mosikili, highlighted some of the successes achieved during this period, particularly in the fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

A total of 1,550 GBVF perpetrators were convicted during these six months.

First Quarter (April – June 2025)
    •    652 perpetrators were sentenced to prison.
    •    99 sentenced to life imprisonment
    •    69 sentenced to 20 years or more
    •    176 sentenced to 10–19 years
    •    308 sentenced to 1–9 years

Second Quarter (July – September 2025)
    •    898 perpetrators were sentenced to prison.
    •    132 sentenced to life imprisonment
    •    112 sentenced to 20 years or more
    •    211 sentenced to 10–19 years
    •    443 sentenced to 1–9 years
