JOHANNESBURG - More than 80,000 foreign nationals have been processed for deportation and repatriation between 14 June and 20 August.
This is according to Inter-Ministerial Committee chairperson Mmamoloko Kubayi, who provided an update on the government’s handling of migration.
Kubayi said Malawians continued to make up the largest group, followed by Zimbabweans and Mozambicans.
“Data indicates that 90 percent of repatriated foreigners entered the country illegally, with 95% classified as border jumpers,” she said.
Kubayi also provided an update on the Temporary Repatriation Processing Centre (TRPC) in Musina, which was established to help manage the repatriation process.
She said the centre had seen a decline in demand, recording its lowest number of repatriations in August, with 58 people processed.

As a result, the IMC decided to shut down the facility.
“The repatriation operations at the TRPC were shut down on 21 August 2026, and the centre has been decommissioned. This heralds the return to normal immigration law enforcement operations,” Kubayi said.
The Department of Home Affairs continues to work with countries requiring assistance with the repatriation of their citizens.
