Padayachee grilled on Dumisani Khumalo's arrest

JOHANNESBURG - Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) senior investigator, Brian Padayachee, has dismissed claims that he influenced Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo's arrest.

Khumalo was charged with fraud and corruption for appointing former BMW mechanical engineer Dineo Mokwele as a Brigadier.

Padayachee was on the stand at the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday.

The commission also heard fresh testimony about the relationship between KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and investigators probing alleged corruption within Crime Intelligence.

Padayachee testified that Mkhwanazi was informed in advance of the planned arrest of Khumalo and other senior officers.

Padayachee told the Commission the commissioner appeared unfazed, saying those implicated would have to "face their own situations," before wishing investigators well ahead of the operation.
