CAPE TOWN - Parliament’s ad-hoc committee probing alleged corruption and political interference in the police is finalising its programme for the coming three months.
The committee was established after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, made bombshell claims about Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, top police officers and the judiciary.
ANC MP Soviet Lekganyane has been elected to preside over the committee’s work.
A total of four ANC MPs, two from the DA, two from the MK Party, one from the EFF and one each from the PA and IPP make up the committee.
Seven others have been elected to serve as alternate members.
MPs have emphasised that their investigation is as important as that of the judicial commission of inquiry into Mkhwanazi's allegations.
The committee will operate from Johannesburg in August to accommodate MPs on recess and save them travelling costs.
