CAPE TOWN - Parliament's Ad hoc committee investigating allegations surrounding corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system has been granted another extension to complete its report.
National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza has given the committee until 30 October to finalise its work, marking the sixth extension since the committee concluded in-person testimony in March.
The relationship between political fixer Brown Mogotsi and Mchunu has again emerged as a key issue in the committee’s deliberations.
In its submission on the draft report, the Democratic Alliance argues that the absence of direct communication between businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu does not resolve concerns about whether an intermediary may have facilitated access to the Minister.
DA committee member Damian Klopper said the committee was not in a position to determine whether a criminal offence had been committed but had identified a potential risk that required consideration.
ANC members of the committee, meanwhile, have defended Mchunu during the deliberations.
