Parties open cases against police minister

JOHANNESBURG - At least two political parties lay criminal charges against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in Cape Town.

The DA accuses Mchunu of misleading Parliament after he told the Police Portfolio Committee earlier this year that he did not know a Brown Mogotsi.

The North West businessman is implicated in alleged political interference in police operations.

The minister has now backtracked, admitting four months later that he does, in fact, know Mogotsi.

He's describing him as just a comrade.

Last night, the MK Party opened a case against Mchunu and Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya.

Mchunu's woes are a result of explosive claims made by KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

He alleges that the minister and other senior police officials are linked to criminal syndicates.
