Pastor's wife arrested as police search for 4-month-old kidnapped child

JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested the wife of a pastor as police continue to search for the four-month-old baby who was allegedly kidnapped in Atteridgeville.

The pastor, who is also a main suspect in the case, is still being sought out by police.

All four are confirmed to be from Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the 24-year-old pastor's wife is in custody and is currently being questioned by detectives to establish where the pastor and the infant are.

“They are searching the area, but as I said, we have also extended the search in terms of where the detectives are exploring; they are also going to the area where they are staying,” she said.

Nevhuhlwi said police are continuing to comb through the crime scene.

It is alleged that the mother and her child were lured to a nearby river by the pastor and his wife for a spiritual ritual.

It was then that the mother was allegedly raped and the infant kidnapped.

Police said they would be opening charges of kidnapping and rape.
